Mirador attends its first ever business expo

by | Mar 27, 2023

On 16 March, we attended the South West Business Expo at Westpoint in Exeter as an exhibitor, along with more than 100 other companies from the local area and beyond.

2000 visitors passed through the doors and there were 20 keynote speakers who spoke on a range of topics, from building business resilience to data security and financial planning. There were even speed networking sessions that took place at various intervals during the event.

Setting up and connecting with attendees

We arrived nice and early to set up our stand and were soon welcomed by one of the keynote speakers. He was really approachable and pointed out who the event managers were in case we had any queries. This initial friendly encounter set the tone for the rest of the day and certainly helped to boost our confidence as expo first-timers.

Throughout the day, we had plenty of visitors to our stand from different sectors and walks of life, aided by the lure of free chocolates and shiny new pens! It was great to meet such a diversity of people and interact with them face-to-face, given the embargoes imposed by the pandemic on events over recent years. There was a definite buzz in the air as people exchanged details and spoke passionately about what their company offers.

We were able to talk to a representative from a much larger business on a neighbouring stand who gave us some good insight into where there was a potential gap in the market that could be filled by web designers. We exchanged business cards and got to know more about his company and where we could perhaps work together in future to support mutual clients. He was also keen to refer his clients to us as he frequently works with people who don’t have a website or whose existing site isn’t getting much traffic. This was a really positive connection to make and we hope to build a solid working relationship.

A great experience all-round

All-in-all, we enjoyed our first expo and have made a reasonable number of new contacts whom we have been following up with. We even managed to listen to a few of the insightful talks on marketing and SEO and visit some of the other exhibitors to learn more about what they do.

If you’re unsure about whether to take the plunge yourself, we’d highly recommend attending the next one as it’s a great opportunity to gain exposure and generate new leads, especially if you’re a startup like us.
